Practical Skills Record - Fourth Class [Ed. 2]

    Price C$139.00

The purpose of the Practical Skills Record is to provide individuals with a convenient, centralized log to record their personal task completion and work experience while acquiring 4th Class ‘firing time’. Future employers may find the skills and experience recorded to be useful.

In consultation with industry, learning institutions, and individuals across Canada, the Institute of Power Engineers (IPE) has developed and updated this book to match the revised SOPEEC syllabus. The index in Edition 2 has also been updated to be larger and include more specific keywords.

Note: Use and completion of this manual is NOT a mandatory requirement of the Power Engineering certification regulations in any Canadian jurisdiction; however, its use will assist both the Trainee and the Chief Engineer to accurately validate an individual’s task competencies history. The local jurisdiction will state what experience form must be completed when applying for exams.

    Refrigeration Addendum

    Price C$0.00

This addendum contains new learning objectives and content in refrigeration safety based on the recommendations made by Technical Safety British Columbia (TSBC) in its investigation reports of the October 2017 ammonia leak. The report examines two ammonia leaks, one occurring at the Fernie Memorial Arena in Fernie, BC, which resulted in the deaths of three people, and the other in October 2018 at a pet food manufacturing plant in Langley, BC, which prompted an extensive evacuation of the area. As this information is critical to operator safety, IPECC, SOPEEC, and PanGlobal Training Systems are making it available to learners immediately at no additional cost. In addition, this material will also be published in the forthcoming editions of Power Engineering Fourth Class, Power Engineering Fifth Class, and Refrigeration Plant Operator.

The new content of this addendum emphasizes the testing of secondary refrigeration systems, safe operation of ammonia refrigeration systems, and maintenance of refrigeration equipment. Some content may be familiar from the courses mentioned above, and the TSBC investigations suggest that it is worth repeating if this content will contribute to keeping all Power Engineers and operators safe.

Refrigeration Plant Operator Edition 4 - Book 2 Applied Concepts of Refrigeration – eBook

Book 2: Applied Concepts of Refrigeration

Applied Concepts of Refrigeration covers refrigeration topics in detail and provides a mathematical understanding of how refrigeration systems work.

The concepts in the first unit of this book establish the fundamental understanding needed for refrigeration. The chapters in the first unit cover mass, force, acceleration, work, pressure, power, and energy, along with the calculations to support your understanding of these concepts. The next topic defines the laws and terminology of thermodynamics. Subsequently, this book details the process of heat transfer and explains how heat exchangers are designed and constructed. This unit also introduces you to refrigeration basics with some mathematical concepts to aid in your understanding.

The next unit provides a comprehensive description of compression refrigeration systems. This unit also covers system control and plant operation, and a later chapter discusses the refrigeration plant maintenance involved in the operation of the plant. A subsequent chapter takes a look at the absorption refrigeration system and explores how the system functions and where it is used in the industry. The book concludes with a chapter on ammonia refrigerant safety.

By the end of this book, you will be able to perform calculations that involve basic physics and thermodynamics concepts. You will also have a comprehensive understanding of heat transfer, heat exchangers, refrigeration systems and their components, and individual refrigerants, and you will understand how these aspects function together to remove heat from a product or space.
